Waltzes

Waltz – A dance in 3/4 time, either slow or fast, with 1 beat in a bar. It is derived from the German Landler which came into prominence in the last quarter of the 18th century.

SUITES

Suite – An Instrumental composition consisting of a succession of fairly short, suitable dance movements in the same key and were sometimes linked thematically. The dances included are usually

Optional movements such as Gavotte, Bourree, Minuet and Passepied were sometimes added.

Giuseppe Verdi

(1813 – 1901)
The greatest of the 19th century Italian Opera composers. His first opera – Oberto was performed when he was 25. Other operas include Rigoletto, II Trovatore and  La Traviata etc. His later operas – Otello and Falstaff show a symphonic style and Wagnerian influence.

Folk Songs

FOLK SONGS – Songs of unknown authorship which has grown up among the peasantry of any race. They are passed on orally from generation to generation and are sung without accompaniment.
